Cold DM 100

Send 100 cold DMs a day using the referral frame. No ad spend. No followers needed. Just your phone and a free offer.

Time: 60–90 mins/day
Tools: Instagram/LinkedIn/Facebook DMs
Cost: Free

Cold DMs are direct messages sent to people who don't know you yet. They work because they bypass the noise of timelines and feeds, landing directly in inboxes. The magic is in the frame: instead of pitching yourself, you're asking a friend if they know someone interested. This turns a cold reach into a warm referral ask. When done at scale—100 per day—the volume compounds into a reliable lead machine.

1

Create your free offer

Package your skill or service as something free or guaranteed. Don't overthink it. The offer removes friction and signals confidence.

For example: Acme Inc's owner offers a free 30-minute accounting audit for any small business. No strings. Walk out with one thing to fix immediately. This becomes the hook in your DM.

Tip: The free offer works because prospects expect to be sold. You're doing the opposite. They'll say yes just to see what you're about.
2

Write the referral DM template

Keep it short. One statement about what you're doing. One ask: do they know anyone interested?

Referral Frame Template
Hey [Name], I'm doing [offer/thing]. Do you know anybody who'd be interested in [outcome]?

Real examples

📊
Small business owner
Accounting
"Hey Jordan, I'm doing free 30-min audits for small biz. Know anyone who needs to clean up their books?"
💪
Fitness trainer
Fitness
"Hey Chris, I'm offering free form reviews for gym people. Know anyone who's been training wrong?"

"Hey Taylor, I'm doing free brand audits. Know anyone whose site needs a refresh?"
Don't: Send the same template word-for-word to everyone. Customize the name and the outcome to what you know about them.

Find your 100 targets

Post content on your feed. Watch who likes it. Then DM their friends—people who engage with you are warm signals, and their network likely shares interests.

Step 1
Post content
Step 2
Note likers
Step 3
DM their friends

Use 3-way messages: mention the person who liked your post. "Hey [Name], my friend [Mutual] saw my recent post—I think you might be a fit." This gets your message out of the request folder and into the main inbox because of the social capital.

Tip: Aim for 20 posts per week with 5–10 likers each. That gives you 100+ targets per week without needing followers.
4

Send 100 messages per day

Block out 60–90 minutes and batch your messages. Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook DMs all count. Track responses as you go.

Keep a spreadsheet: name, platform, message variant, response (yes/no/no response), notes. After 50 messages, you'll see patterns in what works. Double down on the variants that get replies.

Without tracking
0%
No idea what's working
12–15%
With iteration on responses
Critical: You will fail. Expect 85–90% to not respond. That's normal. The ones who do respond are golden.
5

Follow up and convert

Responses will trickle in. Some say "I'm interested." Others say "I know someone." Both are wins. Follow up within 24 hours with next steps—usually a call or a link to book time.

For Acme Inc: when someone says yes to the free audit, send a calendar link. Do the audit. At the end, they'll either want to hire you or refer you. Either way, the offer converts.

Response in: "Yeah, that sounds helpful"
Your follow-up: "Perfect. Let's get 15 min on the calendar." [link]
Outcome: Call booked or referral made
Pro move: Ask for a referral at the end of every call, even if they don't buy. "Who else in your network could use this?"
